into the World of the Blues
With Martin
Scorsese as executive producer and mentor, The Blues is a series of
impressionistic film, directed by some prominent filmmakers of world cinema.
Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Mike Figgis, Charles Burnett, Marc Levin, Richard
Pearce and Wim Wenders share their passion for music through the cameras and
capture the essence of Blues - its emotional resonance. In this breathtaking
journey to the world of Blues, beyond the preciousness of archive material and
interpretations specially recorded for each film stands out how each filmmaker
explores the Blues and its global influence, leaving the cotton fields of
Mississippi, where black slaves influenced by African rhythms elected the Blues
as their music, and extending over the world influencing many people and all
contemporary music such as Rap, Hip-Hop, Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Country and
Rock 'n 'Roll.
On
September 7, 2003, Martin Scorsese joined several musicians at Radio City Hall
in New York for a concert memorable celebration of the Blues. The concert film,
directed by Antoine Fuqua, captures the excitement of this magical night and
provides a real tribute to the Blues. This is the eighth bead collection!
The films
include rare documents file with performances by Muddy Waters, Howlin 'Wolf,
Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Bob Diddley, Eric Clapton among others, and also
about 100 recorded by new interpretations of contemporary blues musicians,
including BB King , Bonnie Raitt, Lou Reed, Tom Jones, Los Lobos, Jeff Beck and
Lucinda Williams

In search
of the origin of Blues, director Martin Scorsese travels with musician Corey
Harris, from the cotton fields of Mississippi to the banks of the Niger River
in Mali, Africa.
This
documentary about the roots of Blues shows us true relics file as well as
performances by Corey Harris, Willie King, Taj Mahal, Keb'Mo ', Otha Turner,
Habib Koité, Salif Keita and Ali Fraka Toure.
Scorsese
explains, "I always felt an affinity for the music of Blues - The culture
and the stories told through music fascinate me and impressed me a lot. The
Blues have a very strong emotional resonance and are undoubtedly the creators
of popular music American ".
